Apples with Apples? or Lemons?

I have to admit a frustration of mine is being asked to quote on what the current cleaners have specified to compare "Apples with Apples". If the existing contractor was performing the work they had agreed to at a good standard, then that would be fine. But if they are clearly not delivering, then how can this be comparing apples with apples?  Here is a picture of us restoring tiles for a new client that paid for apples and, well, got a lemon. The dirty middle section is what the whole floor looked like before we started work on it. Definitely not a case of comparing apples with apples.

If your budget is locked down, then look at the cleaning schedule and ask whether getting the job done properly less often would actually represent better value than a frequent, lousy service. Don't feel trapped by cheap cleaning, just reset the parameters: less frequent, high quality cleaning will have better results than spreading around the dirt as in the photo below. And you'll make sure you get an apple of a cleaning service – not a lemon one.

Sheer Determination and Experience

We starting looking after a new client that had been left in a very poor state from the previous cleaners. Completely unhygienic. They also had non-slip tiles that every previous cleaning company had tried to fix and failed, and then just left them as is. Unbelievable. I had seen similar issues before and committed myself by stating I could fix it. Well, I got myself into a corner as all the normal special chemicals I had failed time after time. I was not giving up but I was fast running out of options, and chemical suppliers had nothing more to offer. Then I came across an old chemical at the office and just knew I was in with a chance. Such a great feeling when it worked and so proud to be able to keep my promise.

Special Projects

Never a dull moment and always enjoyable to put our experience to the test to bring value to our clients.  This work on the roof of a tanning salon saved the tenant the cost of a new ceiling.

Medical Centre Restoration

It is always surprising to me that we took over this centre from a company that took pride in listing medical centres on their website. Here is the amount of dirt that had to be scrubbed off and we are keeping it off.

It seems to be the season for external cleaning. Starting the new financial year with a sharp looking building is great for your brand and staff morale, and it does not cost a fortune.




Another Tender Process Fail

If there was one thing I would love to see change it is the idea that a tender process of getting a large group of suppliers involved in a tender will get the best results for the best price. I have yet to see one done well. The suppliers are treated like suspects and any advice offered is thought to have an agenda. Here are some photo examples of just a few months with a cleaning company that said what the client wanted to hear and won the tender, quality assured to boot!  A big waste of time for all involved.  In the end it was a referral that put us into this site. The best way to succeed with suppliers is to seek out referrals from other companies and see what ideas and passion they can bring to the table. Succcessful companies will not adjust pricing just because 5 others are quoting.

Supporting the Causes

What a tough job, out playing Golf to support the YMCA. I am a proud member of the YMCA and I have to remind myself that the difference between their operations and others is that any profits are returned back into the commmunity. The proceeds of the day went to the YMCA Specialist OSHC Service, which supports both young people with a disability and their carers.

Floor Restoration

Winning the battle against non-slip tiles.  We recently undertook some restoration work on some non slip tiles. These tiles are challenging within the industry. It is a case of perseverance, industry knowlege and research. These tiles do not require any more ongoing scrubbs and just a good daily maintenance program.

Sue at Priceline needed her floor stripped and resealed and despite 6 months of looking could not find a local supplier. Sue called around the group and was referred to us to perform a professional service.

Here is Sue's report:  "They have done a wonderful job. Couldn't be happier and they were very helpful to us in all aspects. Throroughly recommend them. They deserve more money for their excellent attitude alone"

I really like Sue's sense of humour about paying more.   I would love to insert a photo of the finished result here but our poor operator Frank had the shaky hands from working so hard.

Wow- that thing is huge!


Here is our latest and greatest bit of kit that we tweeted last year. It is a huge extension attachment for our high pressure washer capable of reaching three storeys. It allows the operator to move around landscapes and won't destroy grass like some lift equipement can. This changes the game when it comes to cleaning high walls and windows without scaffolding or lift equipment.
